The ‘Canes Go After The Three-Star 2028 Quarterback
‘The Miami Hurricanes extended an offer to quarterback Graham Simpson last week, a three-star quarterback in the Class of 2028.
Graham is the younger brother of current Alabama quarterback and Heisman Trophy contender Ty Simpson. Graham hasn’t yet gotten the same love as his former five-star brother on the recruiting sites, but that hasn’t stopped him from picking up major offers across the country. Simpson also has offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Auburn, Arkansas, UCLA and other major conference schools.
Tale Of The Tape
You can check out Simpson’s latest highlights here.
In his latest game, Simpson showed off his football IQ in a 65-30 win over Dyersburg. He made quick reads and got the ball out fast, cutting up the defense with lasers and letting his receivers make plays in the open field. He didn’t show off much of what he can do with his arm, but he didn’t have to (I’d imagine Westview knew it could take care of Dyersburg without having to open up the playbook). He has a strong pocket presence for a sophomore, stepping up on one particular play and scrambling up the middle for good yards and avoiding a blind side rush with a scramble out right on another. He had the patience to not give up on the pass right away, but the wherewithal to know when it was time to go. You can see the advantage in calmness and maturity his football family has given him.
You’ll get a better showcase of Simpson’s skills in his freshman season tape. He has an arm that already got to 50+ yards through the air as a freshman, and has plenty of time to up that number. He can hit receivers at all three levels, with a nice touch to float a pass over a linebacker with ease.
Simpson has a lot of the things a college coach looks for when trying to find a diamond in the rough. He can throw the ball far and comes from a quarterback family. Coaches will (fair or not) look at his brother and think Graham can grow into that level of player at a three-star price. The only glaring question mark for Simpson is his size. He’s listed at even 6-feet on 24/7Sports and 5-foot-11.5 at On3; shorter than what you’d like out of a quarterback, but you can’t even count that against him yet since he’s still just a sophomore in high school and has plenty of time to grow.
Graham Simpson doesn’t have the flashy five-star rating his brother Ty had in his recruitment, but you can see many of the same skills. Whichever program lands him will have plenty to look forward to in the coming years.
