Miami started fast and got a low-stress win vs. the Hoyas
The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 78-65 win over the Georgetown Hoyas Friday night in the Terry’s Chocolate ESPN Events Invitational.
The Hurricanes started hot against the Hoyas, jumping out to a 13-2 lead and getting the advantage all the way up to 21 points by halftime. Malik Reneau led the way with 19 in the first. The entire Georgetown team only put up 20 points before the break. Miami shot 51 percent from the field in the first half while holding Georgetown to just five field goals. The ‘Canes dominated, and held the Hoyas at arm’s length for most of the second half as well before a slight Hoya push cut the lead to 10 with just two minutes to play. Georgetown didn’t have enough time to complete the comeback and Miami walked away with a 13-point win.
Reneau’s 23 points led the way for Miami, while Tru Washington added 17 points and Tre Donaldson chipped in with 13. Ernest Udeh Jr. pulled down 11 rebounds to pace the ‘Canes on the boards. Miami finished the game shooting 59 percent as a team and held Georgetown to just 36 percent shooting.
Miami’s next matchup pits the ‘Canes against Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. on Dec. 2 at 9 p.m. ET. The Rebels enter the game at 6-2, but have only beaten mid-major teams and come in on a two-game losing streak.
