Miami continued its early-board work Monday, extending a scholarship offer to Class of 2029 cornerback Carlos Lopez.
Lopez gives Miami’s staff another long, local defensive back to track for the 2029 cycle. Recruiting services list him at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds out of Monarch (Coconut Creek, Florida) High School.
This offer fits the program’s broader pattern: identify length and ball skills early, then build relationships before the national push really begins. Corner recruiting rarely allows late reactions, especially when a prospect carries prototype size. Coaches want time to evaluate movement, instincts and competitiveness across multiple seasons, not just a camp circuit.
Lopez already has a small but telling offer list. He has offers from Miami, Texas A&M, Akron and Western Michigan, according to 247Sports. Power-conference interest plus early Group of 5 offers usually points to a player who already checks baseline traits and shows developmental upside.
The 2029 class sits years from signing day, and recruiting sites still list no rating for Lopez. That won’t stop staffs from moving early, though. Programs treat these first-wave offers as priority markers.
The next steps usually look simple. A spring or summer trip to campus, a camp setting with one-on-ones, and consistent contact through the fall. Monarch plays in one of the country’s most competitive pockets, so every Friday night can double as an evaluation.
Miami already owns the home-field advantage here — distance, familiarity with Broward football, and a track record of selling development at premium positions. The offer to Lopez puts another local name on the radar and adds one more thread to watch as the 2029 board starts to take shape.
