Miami’s staff kept its in-state recruiting board active Saturday by offering 2029 Edgewater running back Jahmari “JT” Hammonds, an Orlando prospect whose recruitment has gained steam this spring.
Hammonds announced the offer on X after a conversation with Miami assistant Terry Jefferson.
The Hurricanes now join a growing list of programs chasing one of Central Florida’s early names to watch in the 2029 cycle.
247Sports lists recent offers from Kansas, Appalachian State, East Tennessee State, Coastal Carolina, Duke, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Bowling Green, Missouri, UConn, UMass, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Liberty and Colorado State. Miami’s entry adds a local heavyweight to that race and gives Hammonds another major in-state option as his recruitment develops.
Miami cannot afford to wait on Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville or South Florida prospects. The staff has made early evaluations a priority, and Hammonds gives Miami a chance to build a relationship before his sophomore season.
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound freshman running back already carries a college-ready build on paper. As he continues to develop, Miami can evaluate his broader offensive role. Either way, the early offer signals that the Hurricanes see traits worth tracking now.
Miami has spent years recruiting the Orlando area, and Edgewater routinely plays strong competition. Getting involved with a young player at the program gives the Hurricanes another chance to strengthen ties in one of the state’s most important recruiting pockets.
Hammonds still has a long process ahead, and rankings, positions and offer boards will shift. Still, Saturday’s offer deserves attention because Miami identified a young Florida skill player before the national spotlight fully locks in.
