Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck wasted little time making an impression in his first NFL action.
Beck started for the Arizona Cardinals against the Carolina Panthers in Thursday night’s Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, completing 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions before his night came to an end.
The rookie helped lead Arizona on three scoring drives and showed off the accuracy that Hurricanes fans became accustomed to seeing during his lone season in Coral Gables.
Beck’s biggest highlight came on a touchdown pass to Simi Fehoko. The former Miami quarterback dropped the ball over Fehoko’s shoulder near the right side of the end zone, with the receiver making the catch for the score. NBC Sports described the throw as a perfectly placed pass.
Beck also connected repeatedly with Jalen Brooks, who emerged as his biggest target of the night. Brooks finished with three receptions for 99 yards, including multiple explosive plays.
Beck completed 11 of 14 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown in the first half before receiving additional work after halftime. He eventually finished 15 of 19 for 188 yards, averaging nearly 10 yards per attempt.
Perhaps most importantly for Beck, he protected the football. He did not throw an interception while consistently pushing the ball downfield and helping Arizona move the chains.
Bleacher Report noted that Beck led Arizona to three scoring drives and called it a strong first impression for the rookie quarterback.
The performance continues what has been a remarkable stretch for Beck.
After transferring from Georgia, Beck spent his final collegiate season at Miami and helped lead the Hurricanes all the way to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. He finished the 2025 season with 3,813 passing yards and 30 touchdowns while completing 72.4 percent of his passes.
Arizona selected Beck in the 2026 NFL Draft, giving him an opportunity to develop behind veteran quarterbacks Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II.
The Hall of Fame Game was only Beck’s first preseason appearance, and Arizona’s quarterback hierarchy isn’t going to be decided by one exhibition game. Still, Beck couldn’t have asked for a much better introduction to the NFL.
Accurate, aggressive and turnover-free, the former Hurricanes quarterback looked comfortable from the start.
And for Miami fans watching their former quarterback take his first NFL snaps, Beck looked a lot like the player who helped take the Hurricanes within one victory of a national championship.
