Miami Swimming Sweeps Tri-Meet With FAU And Cincinnati

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami women’s swimming team swept Monday’s tri-meet at Whitten Pool, beating Cincinnati 89-70 and Florida Atlantic 108-51 to move to 4-1 this season.

Miami leaned on sharp relay execution to separate from both visitors. The Canes claimed four relay wins — the 1,400-yard freestyle, 200-yard back, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard butterfly — and turned those races into point swings that Cincinnati and FAU never answered.

Three individual wins backed the relay haul. Carly Lahr grabbed the 150-yard butterfly in 1:30.42, giving Miami a big hit in one of the meet’s nontraditional distances. Ashlyn Massey followed with a 26.98 win in the 50-yard butterfly, then Sarah Sensenbrenner added the third individual victory in the 150-yard backstroke with a 1:30.72. Sensenbrenner also finished second in the 50-yard backstroke and helped Miami keep pressure on every scoring turn.

Diving never entered the scoring ledger in Miami’s two dual results. Miami divers traveled back Monday from USA Diving Winter Nationals in Midland, Texas, and meet officials left those points off the board in the Hurricanes’ matchups. Even with that piece missing, Miami still controlled the meet through swimming events and relays.

Behind Miami, Cincinnati topped FAU 117-40 on the women’s side. On the men’s side, FAU edged Cincinnati 81-78, giving the Owls a tight win to take home even as Miami’s women handled business in the day’s headline scoring.

Miami goes into a short break before another home date. The Canes return to Whitten Pool on Jan. 3 to host Notre Dame, a meet that should restore a full swim-and-dive look as the calendar turns toward the heart of the season.
