UPDATE: Cypher announced he will make his decision Friday, December 19.
2027 linebacker Quinton Cypher cut his recruitment to four heavyweights Monday, sliding Miami into a closing group that also features Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State. Cypher plans to reveal his decision later this week.
Cypher, a 2027 linebacker from Raleigh, North Carolina, plays at Millbrook High and carries national praise across every major ranking set. The 247Sports Composite rankings slot him as the No. 192 overall player in the class and No. 11 at linebacker. Cypher measures 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, a frame that fits modern off-ball work while still holding up when an offense wants downhill runs.
Miami’s spot in the final group of schools matters for two reasons. First, Cypher didn’t just trim; he trimmed hard, leaving only programs that sell national exposure, NFL development and high-end defensive brands. Second, the Hurricanes have recruited the Carolinas with purpose under Mario Cristobal, and Cypher fits the mold the staff targets early in the cycle: high-volume production, multi-year varsity impact and a body that projects cleanly into college strength work.
Production backs up the evaluation. Cypher has recorded 330 tackles across his first two varsity seasons, plus 40 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and five interceptions. The numbers signal a player who finds the ball and finishes plays — traits that translate no matter the level of play.
Next comes a decision announcement that lands before the week ends, unless Cypher shifts that timetable.
