Miami gets involved early with 2028 CB Montravious Clay

Miami continued its early work in the 2028 recruiting cycle by extending an offer to Montravious Clay, a four-star cornerback from Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia.

Clay already boasts a strong recruiting profile. On3/Rivals lists him at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds, with a 91.21 Industry Rating. He ranks No. 143 nationally, No. 15 among cornerbacks and No. 20 in Georgia in the 2028 class. The Hurricanes targeted a defensive back who already has Power Four programs tracking him and a skill set that fits the way the staff wants.

Clay’s recruitment already includes offers from Florida State, Florida, Ole Miss, Liberty and Memphis, with Tennessee, Texas A&M and California among the schools involved. The offer list should grow, especially with Clay playing in talent-rich south Georgia.

The Canes have placed a clear emphasis on longer, athletic defensive backs under Mario Cristobal, and Clay checks enough boxes to justify early attention. He plays corner, carries return-friendly traits and comes from a program that faces strong competition.

Clay gives Miami another young name to watch in the 2028 class. The offer fits the staff’s larger recruiting approach: identify speed early, recruit the Southeast hard and keep adding athletic defensive backs to the board before the national race heats up.
