Miami adds Texas defensive lineman DeMarco Jenkins to 2027 class

DeMarco Jenkins, a 2027 defensive lineman from Pearland, Texas, committed to Miami on Sunday, giving the Hurricanes another front-seven piece in a class that already carried national momentum.

Jenkins visited Coral Gables during Miami’s first official visit weekend, then chose the Hurricanes before scheduled visits to SMU and TCU could change the picture. 247Sports listed upcoming visits with SMU on June 5 and TCU on June 11, but Miami made the right impression before his decision.

Jenkins gives Miami another big body with positional flexibility. He stands at 6-foot-3 and 307 pounds. He recorded 48 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and seven sacks last season, according to the Miami Herald. Those numbers show a player who can disrupt plays instead of just occupy blocks.

Miami also beat out real regional pressure. Canes Warning reported earlier this week that SMU had drawn favorite buzz, with TCU also in the mix, before Miami got Jenkins on campus ahead of his announcement. That type of win carries extra weight because the Hurricanes went into Texas and pulled a defensive lineman from schools closer to home.

Miami’s defensive tackles coach Damione Lewis gave the Hurricanes a Texas connection in Jenkins’ recruitment, and that relationship helped Miami move quickly with a prospect who looked like he could stay in-state.  The Hurricanes already had defensive line commitments from Ezekiel Ayangbile and Josh Johnson. Adding Jenkins gives Miami another interior option and continues Cristobal’s push to build the roster from the line of scrimmage out.

Miami fans have seen this formula before under Cristobal. The staff wants size, length, physical traits and depth up front. Jenkins checks several of those boxes, and he gives Miami another developmental piece with enough production to suggest more than just projection.

The Hurricanes did not just add another name Sunday. They won a recruitment against Texas schools and strengthened one of the most important position groups.
