Miami has expanded its 2028 recruiting board with an offer to Arizona defensive back Xavier Sandhu.
Sandhu announced the offer Tuesday following a conversation with the Hurricanes’ staff. The Brophy College Preparatory standout enters his junior season as one of Arizona’s emerging secondary prospects.
247Sports lists Sandhu at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds. His early offer sheet includes Arizona, Colorado, North Carolina, Penn State and UCLA, among other programs. Recruiting services had not assigned Sandhu a 247Sports rating Tuesday, though he identifies himself as a three-star prospect on social media.
The Miami offer reflects a projection more than a finished evaluation.
Sandhu still has two high school seasons before signing day. His frame gives him the flexibility to develop at cornerback, safety or a hybrid position depending on his physical growth. He also competes in track and field, an experience that should support his speed development and movement skills.
Miami has placed a premium on versatile defensive backs under Mario Cristobal. Modern offenses force secondary players to cover receivers in space, support the running game and communicate through frequent formation changes. Prospects who can handle multiple responsibilities give defensive coaches greater schematic freedom.
Sandhu’s size makes him particularly intriguing.
Longer cornerbacks can challenge receivers at the line of scrimmage and disrupt passing windows. Safeties with cornerback experience often provide stronger coverage skills against tight ends and slot receivers. Sandhu has enough time to develop in either direction.
The offer also continues Miami’s willingness to recruit nationally.
South Florida will always drive the Hurricanes’ recruiting strategy, but Cristobal has signed or pursued prospects from California, Texas, the Midwest and the Northeast throughout his tenure. Arizona provides another talent-rich area with several major high school programs and increasing national exposure.
Early offers help Miami establish relationships before recruiting battles intensify. Sandhu can now visit Coral Gables, communicate with the staff and evaluate how the Hurricanes develop defensive backs. Miami can track his growth through two more seasons before deciding how aggressively to pursue a commitment.
The 2028 cycle remains in its early stages, and rankings will change as prospects add varsity film, attend camps and undergo additional evaluations. Sandhu’s current offer list indicates that major programs already recognize his potential.
Miami’s offer gives him another high-profile option.
It also gives the Hurricanes another lengthy defensive back to monitor as Cristobal continues building future classes alongside his push for immediate championships.
