2027 EDGE Jayvon Dawson Commits To Miami

Miami kept stacking 2027 momentum Sunday night, grabbing a commitment from edge rusher Jayvon Dawson. Dawson picked the Hurricanes over a crowded contender list that included Georgia, North Carolina and Kentucky, giving Mario Cristobal another front-seven piece with local roots and big upside.

Miami extended the offer to Dawson May 8, and Dawson turned that “dream” opportunity into a pledge nine days later. The quick commitment brings some comfort when South Florida prospects carry SEC-level attention before their senior seasons even start.

Dawson stands at 6-foot-3 1/2 and 215 pounds, with a national ranking inside the Top 600 (No. 505) on 247Sports. The same profile slots him No. 43 among edge defenders and No. 44 in Florida.

On the field, Dawson projects as a multi-faceted piece, not a one-lane speed rusher. Miami can park him wide and let him chase quarterbacks, stand him up in pressure packages, or use him as a setting-the-edge defender who still drops into flats when the call demands it. Early special teams snaps can accelerate that transition, while strength work can help him finish through contact against Power Four tackles.

Miami kept a Palm Beach County defender in the fold. Cristobal’s staff keeps treating the tri-county footprint like a priority, and Dawson’s pledge reinforces that message to every 2027 defender watching.
