Miami has moved into the race for one of the more intriguing young athletes in the 2028 class.
The Hurricanes offered Tyner Academy standout Dion Edwards, a Chattanooga, Tennessee, prospect who already carries national recruiting traction before his junior season.
Edwards has speed, positional range and multi-year upside. 247Sports lists him at 6-foot, 160-pounds, with their Composite ranking slotting him No. 102 overall, the No. 6 athlete and No. 3 recruit in Tennessee.
The Canes have tried to identify explosive, flexible players early, especially prospects who could fit on either side of the ball. Edwards fits that blueprint as a defensive back, receiver and return-game type recruit.
Notre Dame offered Edwards May 1, with Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Syracuse, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech among his offers at that time. 247Sports lists 16 offers with no Crystal Ball predictions, which signals an open recruitment with plenty of time left before the pressure arrives.
Miami’s offer also continues a broader 2028 push. The staff has spent this window extending offers to high-ceiling underclassmen, especially athletes with verified traits and Southeast ties. With players this young, early offers only create the opening. Relationships, visits and role clarity decide whether that early move carries weight two years from now.
Edwards’ recruitment will get crowded, but Miami getting involved now gives the Canes a chance to shape the conversation before too many national powers.
