Miami Baseball Freshman Pitcher LJ Drummond Entering Transfer Portal

Miami baseball freshman left-hander LJ Drummond announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal, a move that thins an already fluid pitching picture heading into the summer roster shuffle.

Drummond saw limited action this season. Through May 9, he logged four appearances for only 1 1/3 innings. He recorded a 27.00 ERA, five walks and three strikeouts.

His first college outing came at Duke in mid-March, when he recorded an out via strikeout in the eighth inning. Later, during the May 1 doubleheader at N.C. State, Drummond allowed four runs without an out recorded as the game slipped away during a seven-run fifth inning.

Coach J.D. Arteaga offered more context earlier this spring, pointing to a shoulder issue that kept Drummond from stacking innings after a strong fall. In an interview with CanesInSight, Arteaga called Drummond “our best freshman from the left side” in the fall and early spring before the injury interrupted his ramp-up. The 6-foot-2, 171-pounder arrived from TNXL Academy with Rawlings-Perfect Game All-American credentials.

The NCAA’s published Division I transfer window for baseball runs June 1 through June 30, so Drummond’s message serves as an intention. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
