Florida Fans Need to Calm Down About Their 2027 Recruiting Class

Florida fans finally got a little recruiting momentum, and now they want to talk like the Gators have passed the Hurricanes.

Not so fast.

The Gators deserve credit for building a strong 2027 class under Jon Sumrall. They sit near Miami in the current recruiting rankings, and that gives Florida fans something to brag about after a rough stretch. It doesn’t tell the whole story.

Miami still owns the stronger class where it matters most this early in the cycle: elite talent. The Hurricanes have three five-star commits while Florida has one. Miami also holds a higher average rating on both Rivals and 247Sports.

Class rankings can swing because of volume. A team can climb with more three-stars and lower four-stars early in the cycle. Five-stars tell a cleaner story. They show who has the difference-makers already locked in. The Hurricanes have a better foundation.

Florida fans also need to remember the scoreboard, not just the recruiting graphic. Miami walked into The Swamp on Aug. 31, 2024, and blasted Florida 41-17. The Hurricanes followed that rise by reaching the College Football Playoff National Championship after the 2025 season. Florida went 4-8 in 2025 and fired Billy Napier during the season before hiring Sumrall on Nov. 30, 2025.

Miami can sell recruits proof. Mario Cristobal can point to playoff wins, national exposure and a roster that pushed the program back into the championship conversation. Florida can sell hope under a new coach. Hope helps, but results hit harder.

The Gators can celebrate a top-five class and they should, but acting like a similar ranking erases the last two seasons takes some serious delusion. Miami has recruited at a high level, won bigger games and built a stronger elite tier in the 2027 class.
