Miami Hurricanes running back Jordan Lyle faces legal trouble after authorities arrested him Thursday on a warrant in South Florida.
Local 10 News reported Friday that the Sunrise Police Department obtained the warrant and the Broward State Attorney’s Office confirmed the arrest. Prosecutors said Lyle, 20, faces charges of fleeing and eluding at high speed and reckless driving.
Lyle posted a $55,000 bond and left custody Thursday, according to prosecutors.
Andy Slater first reported Friday that Lyle faced a felony fleeing charge along with reckless driving.
The allegations carry potentially serious legal consequences. Florida Statute 316.1935 classifies fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement at high speed under the circumstances outlined in subsection (3)(a) as a second-degree felony. Available reports have not published Lyle’s charging document or specified the statutory subsection prosecutors plan to pursue.
An arrest and criminal charges do not establish guilt. Prosecutors still must prove the allegations through the legal process.
The University of Miami acknowledged the situation after news of the arrest surfaced. A university spokesperson told Local 10 that UM knew about the incident and planned no further comment while due process continued.
Miami has not announced a suspension, dismissal or other change involving Lyle’s football status.
The arrest interrupts a strong stretch for Lyle during preseason camp. Earlier this week, Mario Cristobal praised Lyle’s progress during fall camp, pointing toward improved physical traits, health, change of direction and acceleration.
That development carried significance after injuries disrupted Lyle’s 2025 season.
Lyle started Miami’s season opener against Notre Dame but suffered a leg injury that limited his role throughout the year. He finished the regular season with 108 rushing yards and one touchdown on 35 carries across six games. His lone touchdown came against Stanford.
Those numbers followed an explosive freshman campaign. Lyle rushed for 400 yards and four touchdowns on 54 attempts in 2024, averaging 7.4 yards per carry. His 91-yard touchdown run at USF set the program record for the longest rush from scrimmage.
That big-play ability kept Lyle among Miami’s most intriguing options entering 2026.
He returned to compete in a deep running back group featuring Mark Fletcher Jr., CharMar “Marty” Brown and Girard Pringle Jr. Lyle’s preseason performance had positioned him for another opportunity to earn meaningful carries before Thursday’s arrest shifted attention toward his legal situation.
Miami now must determine how to handle Lyle’s status while the case proceeds.
Authorities had not released additional details surrounding the alleged incident as of Friday afternoon. Until prosecutors release more information or Miami announces a decision, questions surrounding Lyle’s immediate football future will continue into preseason camp.
