Miami women’s basketball continues to bring South Florida students inside the Watsco Center through one of the athletic department’s longest-running education initiatives.
The Hurricanes currently invite local elementary schools to register interest in the program’s annual Education Day, also called Elementary School Day. Miami Athletics’ Education Day page describes the event as an opportunity for students in kindergarten through fifth grade to attend an NCAA Division I women’s basketball game while participating in educational in-game activities.
Miami Athletics says more than 18,000 students have participated since the program launched. The event connects basketball with classroom-oriented programming while giving many children an opportunity to experience a college sporting event on campus.
School representatives can currently submit information through Miami’s Watsco Kids Elementary School Day interest form. The form requests a contact name, email address, phone number, school name and students’ ages, with Miami Athletics following up with additional information.
Miami has not publicly attached the 2026-27 Education Day designation to a specific opponent in its latest schedule announcement. The Hurricanes released their 2026-27 nonconference schedule on Aug. 21, with 10 games scheduled inside the Watsco Center. Miami opens Nov. 2 against Florida Atlantic and follows with home dates against Jacksonville, Stetson, Saint Peter’s, Le Moyne and FIU before its first road or neutral-site trip.
Schools interested in attending should therefore use Miami’s registration form and wait for direct event details from the athletic department rather than assume one of those home games carries the Education Day designation.
Last season provides a strong example of the atmosphere the event can create. Miami drew 4,028 fans for its Nov. 6, 2025, Education Day matchup against Bethune-Cookman. The Hurricanes defeated the Wildcats 74-41 as Ra Shaya Kyle recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds. Miami’s recap of the 2025 Education Day game highlighted the large morning crowd at the Watsco Center.
The program also drew thousands of students in previous editions. Miami hosted more than 2,000 children for its 2023 Elementary School Day, while a 2016 edition produced a then-program-record crowd of 4,989 against Loyola Chicago.
Those numbers give the event significance beyond one nonconference basketball game. Education Day connects the Hurricanes with schools throughout Miami-Dade County and gives younger fans direct exposure to college athletics, the University of Miami campus community and women’s sports.
Teachers and school administrators who want to participate can submit Miami’s current interest form now. The athletic department can then provide final scheduling, ticket and event information once those details become available.
